Unit 2 LO2 assesment

 Unit 2: LO2
End of LO Assessment
Explain three things you would expect to be included in a client’s brief:
(2 marks) the explicit requirements (things clearly stated by the client as to what they want included in the finished result)
(2 marks) the constraints ( the boundaries that are present and that the project must work around)
(2 marks) the hype of product the client wants to be made, and how long they have to make it.

What are the six types of client brief? (6 marks)
formal, informal, negotiated, contractual, commission, tender

Choose two types of client brief. Explain the creative process you would use for each client brief:
(3 marks) informal - The client will discuss their requirements on a telephone call. There is no document provided. Client and producing organisation will come to a verbal agreement over the product to be produced.
(3 marks) commission - A client will publish an advert that shows that they need media product to be created, and request bids from production companies. When the client and production companies have an agreement, they will discuss estimated costs, timescales and how the product will be produced.

Give two examples of information you would need in order to get started on the production of a digital media product. (2 marks)
The time in which the product needs to be completed. The estimated costs and constraints

Identify two potential approaches you could take when responding to a client’s brief.
(1 mark)  mind map of ideas / swot analysis
(1 mark)  mock up of product

Name three categories that media producers use to define target audience.
(1 mark) demographics
(1 mark) psychographics
(1 mark) geographic location

Background:
Sit on my Pet is a brand new pet sitting app, intended to link pet owners with potential pet sitters. All pet sitters will be vetted through a careful system including references and security checks.
The Product:
The app has been designed by a team of programmers who will match pet owners and sitters based on:
Geographical location
Suitability
Availability
All pet sitters are paid a standard fee of £10 per visit to pet throughout the duration of the owners’ time away. For £25 per day/night the sitters will stay in the house with the pet. There will be a charge of £5 per walk for dogs on top of visit and staying costs.
What the client wants:
Whilst there are several pet sitting apps available, Sit on my Pet benefits from additional security checks which will put any pet owners mind at ease. The client wants an exciting, dynamic advertising campaign to launch their app into the market.
Read the media brief and answer the following questions:

Who is the Target Audience for this app? (1 mark)
Middle class middle age  pet owners + people looking for jobs / who have a high interest in animal care

Identify two ways in which you would approach the targeting of this group:

(1 mark) pet owners - emphasis on a stress free app as their lives are probably quite busy with jobs/children/pets
(1 mark) pet sitters - emphasis on a pet friendly and animal environment to appear to the love of animals

For each explain why it would be effective:
(2 marks) they are probably quite stressed out by other elements of their lives so emphasising the stress free aspects of the app will entice people who need things to be quick and easy so they can get back to organising their lives.
(2 marks)  the pet sitters likely are enthusiastic about animal care, otherwise they would the looking for jobs where they have to take care of pets. This means emphasising the cus/ cuddly aspect will draw the pet sitters in

Select any of the possible creative processes available to you (mood board/mind-map/SWOT analysis) and respond to the client’s brief: (8marks)

Road safety comuter game age considerations

How will the games target age range affect the game design? (6-10)

Controls
The controls are aimed at younger children, so it will have to be obvious how to use them, including a tutorial before the game begins identifying how each controls works. They only have small hands, so each button will have to be close together, but its is likely the buttons will have to be big because their motor skills and aim for pressing the controls aren’t fully developed.

Scoring system
The scoring system should also be fairly simple. Starting extremely simple on the first few levels and advancing as the levels progress. This way they aren’t overwhelmed by the complexity when they fits start playing, but it naturally gets introduced to them as they advance

Colours
The company has to use colour that are appealing to all children, not just one specific gender. This means not too much of one stereotypical “boy” or “girl” colour as it may make the other gender less interested. As well as this, the colours should be bright as they catch the eyes and keep the attention of children who often loose focus. However they can’t be too bright as it may be overwhelming and make the children uninterested. primary colours.

Instructions given
the instructions given should be straight forward and easy to understand. There should also be an option where the instructions can be explained again, not just at the beginning of the game as they might forge and get frustrated f they don’t understand what to do. The instructions should also be interactional so that the children don’t get bored reading a list of instructions.

Road safety computer game SWOT analysis

 Swot analysis :

Strengths

  • well established company - means there is likely a high budget available for development
  • Roa safety - large appeal especially among parents whoa re concerned for their Childs safety

Weaknesses

  • may not be hugely popular with children, as they are unlikely to be extremely interested in road safety
  • Has to be ready in four months - has to be a bit of a tight schedule and may pose problems if thing such as graphic development gets postponed.

Opportunities

  • many opportunities on touch enables devices, such as being more accessible to people who dot have excellent motor skills such as young children.
  • Could be an opportunity to make road safety fun for children and therefore protect them at the same time - increasing the brands reputation among parents

Threats

  • have to be careful not to unknowingly copy any other games. The company dent know of any road safety games so research has to be don’t to see if there is any others that they can’t have too similar a premise of  as it could lead to legal action being taken
  • Have to keep an eye on the competition and make sure no other company is releasing a similar game around the same time as it will take away attention from this company’s game

Dubai medical village

these are the requirements identified in the breif that was layed out by the surgery

  • can be targeted to any gender, class ect,
  • High budget - lots of possibilities to work with
  • Large creative freedom as long as all the information is put across the company is free to play around with other aspects of the advertisements

Brief requirements

Identify what information you would need from a client to get started on the production of a digital media product

You would need to find out things such as what they want to make, the purpose of the media product, the context of the wider company, informations on the client, the intended audience, and the possible presentation format.

This is an example of the types of requirements that will be found in client briefs :

Requirements

Implicit

Open

Constraints

Explicit

These will be inferred from the brief; you have to interpret what is said

There is some creative freedom within the brief for you to play with

These are boundaries that the project must work within. (Legal etc..)

These are clearly stated and most be met when producing the product.

Types of client briefs

1.  Three things that would be expected in a client brief : objectives of the company, the specify requirements they desire, the time frame in which the company needs the product.

2. 6 types of client brief : contractual, negotiated, formal, commission, tender, and informal

Formal

A scheduled meeting will take place between the client and the producer where the client will outline their requirements for the products. Written documentation will be provided for this meeting. The documentation will set out the rules and regulations that will be followed. This meeting will allow detail to be looked at, with follow-up meetings being arranged where initial ideas from the producing organisation can be discussed. Some of these formal meetings are nowadays conducted using video conferencing.

Informal

The client will discuss their requirements during a telephone call. There will be no documentation provided, with the client and the producing organisation coming to a verbal agreement over the product to be produced.

Negotiated

The client and the producer work together to develop a brief for the project and digital media product. Discussions will take place where the various aims and objectives will be agreed on before anything is formally written down.

Contractual

The brief is outlined within a contract of employment.

Commission

A client will publish an advert that shows that they need media product to be created, and request bids from production companies. Production companies then send in their brief, or pitch, in a meeting as a response to the advert. Within this response, production companies will show estimated costs, timescales and how the product will be produced.

Tender

The client will hire a separate independent media company to create a media product for them. The media company will formulate their own research, proposal and planning for the project. They will then develop the product based on this. The whole process is overseen by a commissioner from the client.

welsh mocha

product ideas  :

Idea one - company logo could be a circle with a bright green background with a grey silhouette of coffee beans. The green ties into the idea of being echo friendly as the colours are heavily correlated with each other , and the beans make sure the people who may see the symbol on the street know that it is a coffee shop. On the t-shirt, there can be a small version of the logo on the front on the left hand side of the shirt with the words “welsh mocha” underneath, and on the back there can be a coffee cup wearing sunglasses with a recycling symbol in the middle of the cup and the brand name on it. This will be done using graphic design to look very much like a cartoon, which will draw in people of all ages to want to enjoy their coffee as the design will be general enough for all types of people to enjoy. As well as this, the sunglasses link back to the corporate idea of relaxation .

Idia two - company logo could be a circle with a small wave going through it, on one half is  a light green colour and the other a brown colour. The green inks to being echo friendly, the brown links to the fact that it is a coffee shop. On the back of the t-shirt in big words “mocha coffee” with an image of someone lying on a beach with an iced coffee (linking in with the relaxation idea)

Targeting a brief

The audience considerations form the Welsh Mocha brief : they will have to consider if they want their product to be mainstream or niche - most likely they will want it to be mainstream as they want as mean people as possible to buy their coffee however this could use issues as its difficult to make a product marketable to that large of a range of people. As well as this they will have to consider the socio-economics of the people that they are are targeting to - this will probably be people with a fair amount of disposable income if they are to be loyal customers who regularly spend their money on high quality coffee. Furthermore they will have to consider psychographics, taking into the Idea of being eco and environmentally friendly, targeting towards people who’s lifestyles tend to centre around health.

These consider may affect the final design as this perhaps would need to be altered, for example buying material from an eco friendly manufacturer which might increase the potential costs. As well as this, they have to think about what would be most appealing, so not including niche interests or references that not many people would understand.

Reasons why the wide target age range could be an issue :

welsh mocha wants to target a very wide raneg of people and this could be an issue becasue The product may become too vague, in the companies attempt to include everyone, the product may become too vague or uninteresting for anyone to be interested in buying. Everyone becomes more inclined to buy something when it includes something they are interested in - it peaks their want for the product - so the company may make their product so general that it doesn’t actually have anything unique or interesting about it causing it to be undesirable.
The advertising strategy may be harmed. It is much more difficult to form an ad campaign that everyone will enjoy because everyone is unique and has their own niches that they belong to. Similarly to the product itself, the marketing may also suffer as it becomes possibly too general to spark any interest in looking further into the product.

One reason why he full target age range should be sampled when gaining feedback about the design is that you are then able to ask a representative group about their opinions. If the sampling is done well it will mean that the answers you get from the sample can be generalisable to the wider target population, leading to adjustments to the product to be made to better suit the potential customers.

Unit 2 LO1 assesment

 Unit 2 - LO1 Assessment

Name four planning factors (4 Marks)

1. Legal issues
2.  Timing
3. Location facilities
4. The target audience

Identify one cost that Ian needs to consider when developing a social media app called 247Me and explain how these costs impact on the project. (2 Marks)

One cost that Ian will have to consider is the design of the app and how he will achieve the aesthetic that he wants. he could design it himself or hire someone else but either way it is a key part of appealing an audience as it can make the app look more attractive if its pleasant to look at. This will cost a lot for Ian as it needs to be done well.

Identify two revenue stream methods Ian could use to help develop the 247Me app and continue development  (2 Marks)
One revenue stream method Ian could use is a sponsorship, if he finds a brand that wants to be associated with his app they can collaborate and both simultaneously earn money from the app.  Another method could be crowdfunding, if Ian find an audience big enough and raises enthusiasm  for his app, It could insight a large amount of people to want to use the app, and so give what they can in order to see it developed

Identify two types of pre production materials that Ian could use to plan and develop the project. Explain why it is suitable for this type of product. (4 Marks)

One type of preproduction material would be acquiring the right to sound effects, or developing some himself. This would be useful as it could be used to enhance the consumer experience as they would be able to be kept interested by different sounds. This is suitable as it has been seen in other applications, for example an app making a noise when liking an image on social media.

Ella is a Graphic Designer.  Discuss how her training and skills could be used when developing the 247Me app (6 Marks)

Ella is a graphic designer, suggesting she has gone to school/ had training in how to piece together art online. It also implies that she is a creative person who enjoys and is confident in making things look presentable. This could be very useful with developing the 247Me app. This is because when people go to buy an app, there are often thousands of different options that deliver similar results. Because of this, people often look for the design of the app that they like the best, they’re most enticed when something pleases their eyes as it not only makes the experience more enjoyable, but it implies that the app will run smoothly and effective as it shows that the app developers have put a lot of time and effort into all aspects of the app. Considering this, it would be very useful to have a graphic designer, because they would likely know a lot about how to entice a customer, for example the right colour scheme, design, and themes to use throughout the app. On top of this, a graphic designer would be able to be a part of the conversation when developing the function of the app, thinking about what layout and orientation would be most convenient for the user, which will therefore ensure that is has a long and successful life on the market.

6)

Identify two legal or ethical issues that Kamran needs to consider before the team develops ideas for a website called Myholidayplanner.com. Explain how these will impact on the project (4 marks)
An ethical issue that Kamran needs to consider is the portrayal of the different holiday destinations. For example its important for him to convey what the area around the destinations are lie, as well as the hotels act because it would be unethical to advertise something as completely different to how it is in real life. an example would be advertising a hotel as family friendly, but in reality it being very unsafe for children/babies. A legal issue Kamran has to think about is the information that goes into the advertisements. For example in different countries the prices could differ, but if the team doesn’t adjust the ads for each country, they could run into legal problems if it goes against each countries individual guidelines. This will impact the project as lots of time and resources will have to be spent looking into the advertisement and hotel laws in each area.

Identify one legal issue which might be relevant when planning the use of assets for the promotional brochure (1 mark)

Weather the company has the correct permission/rights from the owners of the assets in order to put it in the brochure

Identify four regulatory bodies (4 Marks)

1. BBFC
2. PEGI
3. OFCOM
4. IPSO

Identify two regulatory bodies for video games and television with examples of how they rate their products. (3 marks)

One regulatory body for video games is PEGI, which is a European video game content rating system. It rates video games by looking at the content of the game (for example does it have any sex references, drug abuse, heavy violence etc) and confirming what age range the game would be suitable for (for example a PEGI 7 would be suitable for everyone 7 years and older). A regulatory boy for TV is OFCOM; a body that regulates the TV and radio sectors, fixed line telecoms, mobiles, postal services, as well as the airwaves over which wireless devices operate. An example for how they would regulate their products would be looking at a reality TV show and ensuring nobody had their privacy breached, and is kept safe at all times. As well as this they also ensure viewers are protected from harmful and offensive content, especially at different age ranges
